Jim Lyng is an adjunct assistant professor with the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the School of Psychology. Trinity College Dublin where as a member of the core staff team he teaches and supervises on cognitive and behavioural therapies. He is also a senior counselling psychologist with Cluain Mhuire Community Mental Health Services in Dublin where he has worked for the past 10 years and maintains a private counselling and psychotherapy practice in Dublin City Centre.

Jim has been involved in all aspects of the delivery of DBT to adults with borderline personality disorder and severe emotional dysregulation for the past number of years. He completed his basic training in DBT under Heidi Heard and Prof. Sue Clarke in 2006, since which time Jim has undertaken several advanced DBT trainings in the US, UK, and Ireland, highlights including an advanced intensive led by Dr. Linehan in Seattle in 2010 and a further advanced training conducted by Dr. Linehan in Cork in 2014.

Under the supervision of Dr. Michaela Swales, Jim is currently completing a PhD investigating outcomes for DBT in routine practice settings, a project which has led him to ongoing consultation to DBT teams based near Belfast, Dublin, Mayo, Longford and Monaghan.

Over the past 5 years Jim has been invited to deliver training events and seminars on DBT and emotional dysregulation to a number of professional bodies and care providers in Ireland and he has recently joined the British Isles DBT Training Team.
